Sunday with the Kittens: Break Out – Breakthrough?

Shibumi - Caught
Shibumi

So much changed this week – and this look tells it all! The kittens figured out how to get past our makeshift barrier into the rest of the house.

Little by little, they’ve been discovering the larger space…

Queen Shibumi the Instigator is dauntless. She and Scout shocked us all this week by getting up into the basement ceiling. Thankfully with the lure of food and toys, we were able to get two dust-covered kittens out safe and sound.

Not to be left out, Escher found his way into the same spot later in the week despite our first attempt at kitten-proofing. Of course, no matter what mess they create or barrier they break, they feign innocence incredibly well.

With all of the new space, grand adventures and many a big “No!”, there’s been more distance between us and the kittens this week. Exploring the brand new world was certainly more interesting than we humans.

We’ve had to keep a close eye on these little ones and anticipate, as best we can, what they’re dreaming up next.

Still, there have been lovely, cute and quiet moments. We’ve had a few pets and purrs along the way.

And though I’m learning that progress is anything but linear, everyone’s starting to feel at home.

Nourish Your Self; Nourish Your Dreams

Nourish Your Self with Beauty

“We are such stuff as dreams are made on.” Prospero. The Tempest. William Shakespeare.

Nourish Your Self; Nourish Your Dreams

I know you have dreams. I know that inside your heart are the seeds of many dreams, seeds that need to be nourished with time, attention and love. But I want to tell you a secret. What your dreams need more than anything else is a nourished, cared-for you.

Prospero is right, “We are such stuff as dreams are made on.” Though your dreams may eventually take on a life of their own, in the beginning they are fully dependent on you, so tending to yourself is, in fact, tending to your dreams.

When we take care of our bodies, we have energy to give.

When we feed our minds, we have tinder for our creative fire.

When we experience life, we have something to be inspired by.

When we take time to breathe, we give our dreams room to unfurl.

When we are nourished, we have lots to share.

And, creative heart,  I know you want to share.

What Nourishment Do You Need?

How can you create an environment where you, your creativity and your dreams flourish? What do your mind, body, heart and spirit need? Some of us thrive on a rhythm of rise and fall, while others enjoy a steady pace. Some of us embrace mornings, while others come alive at night. What brings your energy to life? What nourishes your imagination, your spirit, your body? What lights you up? What grounds you?

Here are some journaling prompts to help you hone in on your unique way of nourishing yourself so you can create a fertile environment for you and your dreams. Be specific and see if you can come up with at least 10 different ways to complete each sentence.

Take It To Your Journal: Ways to Nourish Your Self

  2. Some ways to nourish my physical self are…
  3. Some ways to nourish my spiritual self are…
  4. Some ways to nourish my mental self are…

The seeds of our dreams need nourished soil in which to grow. Let’s start with nourishing our selves. Let’s start right now.

Get Prolific with Your Creative Projects

2015-06-09 Hi from the Studio

One of the questions I’m asked most often is how do I manage to be so productive! I’m creating podcasts, videos, posts and courses all the time – and loving it!

I live and breathe creative projects!

I believe that bringing an idea to life is true magic – where once there was nothing, now there is something! And one of the glorious benefits of this kind of creative magic is that when you create a project, it also creates you!

Join me for the Creative Practice Seminar and I’ll share the magic. It’s not too late to join me!

Our creativity wants to take form. Our ideas, our energy, our impulses inevitably ask to be channeled into a creation of some kind. Being willing to show up to the work, wherever you are, with whatever you have, is the beginning of great magic and adventure.

Creative projects bring their own set of challenges – coming up with ideas, choosing which one(s) to pursue, facing fear and resistance and learning new skills, to name but a few – but they are also a gateway to discovering our artistic voice and becoming our creative selves.

Join me for the first of our Studio Seminar Series: Creative Projects

Art Day: When Your Busy, Keep it Simple

Simple Art Day

Every now and then a week comes along where things seem too busy for our regularly scheduled Sunday Art Day.  With both the Creative Projects Seminar and Sparkles LIVE! coming up, as well as several special events (including Shannon’s birthday on Thursday), this was one of those weeks. I sadly asked Shannon if we could postpone until next week and she was, of course, understanding. And so, I worked and worked and worked and then around 3:00, I sent her a text, “Hey, want to spend an hour creating?”

We grabbed some simple supplies, mostly coloured pencils, and projects we’d been working on and tucked in. We coloured and chatted and before we knew it, we’d had some art day fun. It was just what I needed to dive into the week ahead.

Even a little creative time makes a big difference.
