Our Junk Journal Journey Starts Tomorrow!

Junk Journal Materials

There’s a new class starting in The Academy this weekend and I wanted to be sure you didn’t miss it: Junk Journal Journey.

A Junk Journal is a handmade journal created with found papers, such as junk mail (hence the name), old calendars, pages from books and magazines. It’s the perfect place for the paper ephemera of your life – cards, stickers, letters, leftover stationary, etc.

Creating a junk journal is a fun, easy and unintimidating step into the world of visual journaling.

In the Junk Journal Journey Course you will …

Gather: Every step on this journey is a discovery process. Gathering your materials will be not just a practical exercise but a way for you to hear the stirrings of inspiration in your creative heart.

Envision: You’ll have the opportunity to choose and explore a theme to bring to life through your junk journal so that you’ll have a focused exploration and finish tangible expression of your vision.

Create: You will create a Junk Journal that is uniquely yours, one that expresses your vision and style!

Collage: Once you have made the basic form of the journal, you’ll continue to develop it and your theme with additional collage.

Embellishment: You’ll finish the whole thing off by adding in some drawings, doodles and embellishments – another step in personalizing your very own junk journal.

A Little Note: Don’t be intimidated by any step in this journey! There is nothing here you can’t do. Our goal is to keep it simple and doable and to have fun and grow creatively along the way. We’ll be taking our time with each step so that we can actually enjoy the process while we’re learning and creating.

The Junk Journal Journey Course gives you …

A Weekly Video Lesson: Every Saturday you’ll get a new video lesson teaching you the next step of the process. Of course, you can choose to watch at a time that is convenient for you.

A Chance to Learn & Enjoy: Each week we will take one step on the Junk Journal Journey. This gives you time to get grounded and comfortable with each creative step. Plus, it gives you time to enjoy the process! After all, isn’t that what creating a junk journal is all about?
A Creative Practice: Having a focus, a community and a schedule is a great way to support you in being creative throughout our time together. When you spend dedicated time developing a creative habit, you allow it to take hold in your creative life.
A Creative Community: You won’t be alone on this journey! You’ll be a part of a group of creative hearts learning, growing and creating right along side you – plus the guidance of a creative living coach – that’s me!
You Time: Having a structure and support can make all the difference in taking time for your creativity and bringing a project to life. You may just be surprised at how much making your junk journal nourishes your artistic soul.
Your Unique Junk Journal: At the end of the course, if you’ve followed along and taken all the steps, you’ll have your own junk journal – a tangible expression of your creative vision and unique style!

Celebrate the Summer Solstice with a Fire Dance

Join in the Dance and Activate Your Own Creative Fire

In this creative workshop, we will use the practices of dance to tune into the element fire and discover the wisdom that it has for us. We will clear our fire energy blocks, dance for answers and then move in celebration of all we discover. This is sacred time for your inner dancer, time for her to find her way home.

About Dance & You, the Dancer

You are a dancer.

Yes, I mean you.

You may have forgotten but it is true.

When you were just a wee one, your body wiggled and shimmied and jumped. When music came on your shoulders knew it, your arms, your belly, your hips.

We are born to move. All of us. Not just the few who are chosen (but them too). We all have a right to our body’s wisdom, our body’s grace, our body’s vivaciousness.

Step into the circle and reconnect with this part of yourself, the part of you that was born to dance.

Discover the Power of Fire

Each of the elements brings a different energy to the world. When we dance with the elements, we open to receiving their wisdom and our gifts into our lives.

Fire is the element of action.

It  is our energy and enthusiasm.

Fire is our confidence, our chutzpah. It is where we find our power.

Fire is the energy of our life force and vitality.

Fire the realm of movement, of activity, of doing.

It is the realm of play and playfulness.

The realm of breaking boundaries.

Fire is the great transformer. Dance with fire and everything can change.

Fire is our passion – for life, for our work, for ourselves, for others. It’s what lights us up and what helps us light up the world.

Fire is act of creation, whatever our expression may be.

To activate any or all of these energies, step into the circle and dance with fire.

Candle Fire

In This On-Demand Workshop You Will…

  • AWAKEN: Awaken your inner dancer.
  • CLEAR: Clear old and blocked energy that is stifling your creative fire.
  • DISCOVER: Discover the wisdom fire has for you.
  • CELEBRATE: Celebrate the connection with fire and the wisdom and insight you gain.
  • REMEMBER: Remember that you are a dancer. May you never forget again.

You Will Need…

  • TIME: Set aside some time for this process, an hour will be spacious for the dance.
  • SPACE: Create some space for yourself. Be sure to have the privacy you need in order to express yourself freely. Know that whatever size your dance floor, large or small, you can dance with fire.
  • JOURNAL: You will gather your insights and learnings during our time together, so you’ll need something to write with and something to write on – your journal would be perfect!
  • CLOTHING: Wear something that allows you to move, even better if it’s something you feel wonderful in. Avoid wearing anything slippery on your feet. You might also want a layer you can put on as you move from dancing to journaling.
  • YOUR HEALTH & WELL-BEING: The most important thing, especially when playing with fire, is to tend to your well-being. Please take care of your health and energy. You’ll have the opportunity to dance three times in this circle. Take these dances at your own pace. You can keep it small and still receive all the insight of the experience. If you have any concerns about your well-being consult with your doctor. (Note: By participating you agree that you are taking part in this workshop of your own free will and risk and that you accept full and complete liability and hold the facilitator harmless from any and all liability resulting from and/or arising out of all activities. This agreement is ongoing.)

You Will Not Need

  • DANCE EXPERIENCE OR TRAINING:  You do not need to have any dance experience or training. The power to move your body and dance is within you right now. (Please note: If you have movement limitations, you can dance. Everyone can dance. Dance with your hands, your shoulders, your feet, your eyebrows. Sit in your chair and dance. Lie in your bed and dance. Know what your body needs, tend to yourself wisely (ask your physician for help) and work within your capabilities.)

Journal Club ~ Creativity in Community (registration now open)

Coffee Shop Date

Do you ever gaze wistfully at those photos of creative women hanging out in cool coffee shops with their friends and their journals? You know, a little chitchat and connection and then time to actually breathe, relax and write.

No pressure.

No deadlines.

Just time and space to pour whatever is on your mind and in your heart onto the page.

*Sigh*

I love that too and that’s why I’ve created Journal Club. It’s your time each week to hang out in our online coffee shop with a community of creative hearts.

In Journal Club you’ll get a whole lot of support and just the right amount of structure to actually start and maintain a journal practice. Every week we’ll play with prompts and have time to free-write. We’ll doodle too! We’ll also have a chance to chat and get to know one another, which we can continue in our private Facebook group.

Whether you’ve been journaling for decades or this is your very first time, you’re welcome in Journal Club. This is your time. It’s going to be magic!

In all my years as a creative living coach and in the hundreds of interviews I’ve done as the host of the Creative Living with Jamie, the one practice that creatives tell me they return to again and again and again is journaling.

This simple practice of putting pen to page allows us to discover our truth, express our self and hear our own voice.

This simple practice can transform everything.

This simple practice is magic.

Jamie's Journals

Gifts of Journaling

Journal to Know

One of the greatest blessings that we can give ourselves is the gift self-knowledge. All of our decisions, our dreams, our creations come alive when imbued with the power of our true selves. A journal can help us discover, recover and remember exactly who we are.

Journal to Discover

One of the magical properties of journaling is that it reveals to us all sorts of things that we didn’t know we knew. As our hand glides across the page, we begin to hear our own truth expressed in brand new ways. We come face to face with intuitive insights, unexpected ideas and unexpressed dreams. As we discover what lies within, we are able to guide our lives by our inner compass.

Journal to Express

Your journal is a safe place for everything that is within you. It is a place where you are free to fully express the real you without inhibition or second-guessing, without judgment or fear. In your journal you can say, do and be exactly who you are.

Journal to Explore

Your journal is like your studio. It’s a place where you can explore options, play with possibilities and dance with ideas.  You are free to imagine, envision and invent. Follow inspiration wherever it leads and you never know just where you’ll end up!

Journal to Create

Your journal can be a conduit for creation. Drawings, stories, poetry, songs, designs – all of these things and more can come to life on between the covers of your journal.

Journal to Think

Your journal is the perfect place to work things out, to wrestle with questions and to plot and to plan. Use your journal to think things through, to wonder and to question. It’s the perfect place for brainstorming, for mind-mapping and for all manner of lists. What seems a confusing jumble in our mind can often become clear on the page.

Journal to Remember

Your journal can be a place where you gather the moments of your day, where all the things you want to remember can be lovingly tended and kept. From your to-do list to all of your dreams, from your doodles to your gratitudes, your journal can be a snapshot of this moment in time.

Journal to Ground & Release

A regular practice of journaling allows us to release excess energy, emotional steam and burdens we might not even realize we’re carrying. It allows us to connect with ourselves and remember who we are, giving us ground to stand on and allowing us to release what no longer serves us.

Journal to Be

Your journal is your journal. You can be, say, do anything you want on your pages. There is room for all of you – the brilliant and the blasé, the moody and the motivated, the heartbroken and the enraptured, the grateful and the grandiose. Whoever you are in this very moment, however you are feeling, all you have to do is show up to your journal and be.

Journal Club Gives You…

Dedicated Time

Sometimes it’s hard to take time for ourselves. Joining the club will help draw a line around this time that is especially for you and your journal. Time to think your own thoughts, find your own words, hear your own voice. Time for you.

A Lot of Support

Journaling is generally a solitary experience. With Journal Club you get your own time to write but you also get the guidance of a creative living coach plus the encouragement of a supportive creative community. Talk about the best of both worlds!

Just Enough Structure

Journal time is you time. No one is going to tell you what you have to write. We’ll have a structure to our time together and I’ll offer prompts to open up the possibilities but you can always, always, use your time in your journal your way. Period.

A Creative Community

In addition to our weekly journal time together but we’ll have our private Facebook group. I know we’re going to have a great time together!
