Sunday with the Kittens: Sensitivity & Milestones

Triplets

It’s been just over three months since we brought three abandoned kittens home. I try to take stock all the time, to notice the changes, the shifts, the improvements, to be aware of how far we’ve come.

Escher on the Bed

Escher remains wary and reserved the majority of the time. I’ve been thinking this week that perhaps he’s an HSC aka a “Highly Sensitive Cat.” He seems hyper vigilant all the time and we have our best success at getting close when he’s dozing. At those times, when all is quiet and all is well, we can pet him and even hear some loud purrs.

Kitten s Intertwined

Luckily he has the support of his siblings.

Scout

Scout continues to grow into a loving, elegant gentleman. One of the best moments of the week was when he and Shibumi jumped onto the couch and hung out with while Justin and I watched TV. Scout curled up right beside me, leaning into my leg and resting his head on my thigh, purring deeply for at least an hour. This was a major milestone! Until now, the kittens have not shown the slightest interest in shared couch-time. Of course, this tender moment began as they chased my yarn as I tried to crochet! We look forward to many cozy nights to come.

JRS Shibumi

Though Shibumi doesn’t look like cozy is her mood of choice, LOL. Wherever there is action, there is Shibumi. Crinkle a paper ball and she comes skidding into the room. My sister Shannon says Shibumi has two speeds: fast and off.

Sharing the Chair with Kittens

I was also delighted this week when Scout and Shibumi figured out they could sit on my chair with me.  It’s hard to see but both of them are tucked in behind me there. They stayed put all morning – and yes, I stayed perched at the end of my seat the entire time. When I finally went for coffee I returned to…

Shibumi Loves Chair

Luckily, Shibumi sleeps so soundly I could just move her over and take a seat.

I'll Never Get My Chair Back

Still, I have a feeling I might be losing my chair!

Escher on Grey Chair

Luckily, there’s another good spot in the studio but it looks like it’s taken!

The Magic of Listening – and How to Develop It

JRS Listen

Over the years I’ve received plenty of feedback about my intuition, about how sometimes what I share here on the blog, on the podcast or on the Behind the Scenes addresses just what someone is going through, is exactly what their heart was aching for. This always touches me deeply because it affirms the depth and magic of our connection. And whenever someone asks, “How do you do it?” My answer is always “I listen.”

Connection is nourished with listening.

If you want to be more connected to yourself, to your loved ones, to your work, to your clients, to your community, to your art,  to your pets, a great place to start is to listen. Listen with your whole self. Listen with wonder and compassion. Listen like you don’t know what you’re going to hear.

Listen Within

Begin with listening to yourself. Come to know the sound of your own voice, the deep ticking of your own heart. To do this, spend time on your own, time where you won’t be swept up in the rhythm of the world you move in and the music of the people you share it with, time where that whisper inside of you has the chance to be heard.

Many of us find space for this listening in our journals. Many find it in going for walks and being outside. Some find it in the shower or in meditation. Sometimes, especially for extroverts, we find it in deep conversation with trusted confidants, discovering our truth only when it streams out of our mouth into a good listener’s ears.

Listening within connects us to our inner compass. It is from here our deepest dreams, our best instincts and our true voice come to life.

Listen Around

Connection is possible when you engage in the simple act of listening to those around you. So often we’re rushing through the conversation, with somewhere to go, something to do and many more conversations to have. We may complain that others aren’t listening, just waiting for their turn to speak, but are we guilty of that too? Do we listen to our spouse, our friend, our colleague with an ear to what impacts us instead of paying attention to what they are sharing about them? Those of us who are deeply sensitive sometimes stop listening when we feel like we feel we’ve got a situation or a person sussed.

Slow down just a touch and choose moments to really listen to those around you, whether it’s your friend, your dog or your barista. Exhale deeply and listen without expectation. Listen with your eyes, your ears and your heart. What do you hear?

When we listen, we create a live wire between us able to carry an electrical current back and forth. Listening makes the magic of connection possible.

Listen Through

Magic and insight awaken when we sink into listening to the reverberations of the world. Every moment, we are receiving unspoken information like vibrations singing through the web that connects us all.

Stretch your senses out and listen. Pay attention to synchronicities, to energy, to trends. With your inner ears, listen to your community, to your clients, to your kids. Listen for the underlying transmissions in your workplace, in nature, in your studio. Listen to what is being sent but not said. Listen through.

The Magic

As we grow in our capacity to listen, we develop confidence in our inner voice, we are able to meaningfully connect with others and our sensitivity to the currents that flow all around us guide our way.

When you feel lost, unsure and alone, when you are ready to deepen your intuition and your experience, when you’re ready for what’s next, listen. Discover, once again, how the magic of listening empowers us all.

What would be different if you found your Holy Yes?

Our task is to say a holy yes to the real things of our life as they exist – the real truth of who we are… ~ Natalie Goldberg

Join Meghan and Jamie for an inspirational retreat on the stunning Pacific Coast of Costa Rica.

Imagine waking up every day knowing that you will be cared for and nourished and that there is space for you and your dreams.

Imagine spending time in lush, abundant surroundings, all of which whisper to you that anything is possible.

Imagine spending 6 days in a circle with other women: creating community, journaling, practicing gratitude, making magic, holding space for each other, and believing in our dreams.

Imagine a space where there is nothing to change, nothing to fix and nowhere to be, apart from listening to yourself and learning how to hear and follow your own Holy Yes.

Dominical Costa Rica Meghan Genge

WHAT IS A HOLY YES?

The Holy Yes is the knowing that makes you take a deep breath whenever you think about your dream.

The Holy Yes knows without a shadow of a doubt that this decision is the right one.

The Holy Yes knows all of the reasons why this is crazy, but it knows to its toes that it is actually the only sane choice.

The Holy Yes immediately connects you with helpers, guides and magic.

The Holy Yes is the only choice you can make.

And you can make it. With space, with practice and with support you will hear that voice again and you will know what to do.

And that’s what The Holy Yes Retreat is all about.

It’s about you honouring yourself with time for yourself. It’s about you connecting to your own energy ~ to the divine spark within. It’s about you remembering who you are. It’s about you being completely taken care of ~ in paradise ~ while you connect with other women, with your spirit, with your voice…

It’s about you.

WHAT WILL IT BE LIKE?

Magical. Vibrant. Warm. Joyful. Transformational.

The magic will begin as soon as you say yes. When you register, you will receive an email from us confirming all of the details.

As the retreat gets closer, you will also receive all the practical details you need to make the journey easy, from how toIMG_4085 arrange for travel to suggestions of what to pack. We want all of the externals to be light so that you can focus your attention on the journey within.

As soon as you arrive, you will feel the magic of paradise – the scent of the tropics, the sounds of the wildlife, the tastes of fresh, organic food, and the warmth and welcome of this part of the earth.

Then we will gather – like-spirited women ready to connect to ourselves, to one another and to the truth in our hearts. We will begin a time of shared meals, guided adventures – within Costa Rica and within ourselves – and together we will discover magic. Each of us will be changed by what we share.

WHERE WILL WE STAY?

hotel-cuna-del-angel-2

Picture yourself in a 4* hotel on the south pacific coast of Costa Rica with infinity pool, spa, and an attentive staff to take care of you. Toucans and monkeys play in the trees around the hotel. We’ll gather together for breakfast and dinner in the lovely open-air restaurant with its view of the sea (where every single thing on the menu is gluten free!) On most days after breakfast we will travel to our very own beautiful house for the rest of the day, where we will dream and write and stretch, have lunch and fruit and coconuts, swim and laugh and tune in to our own Holy Yes. There will also be plenty of time to rest, reflect, or even book a spa treatment. It is all about caring for you.

THE HOUSE453_500139f_0

While we are sharing the hotel with other guests, we will have an entire ocean-view mansion to ourselves every single day! With a circular terrace, a covered eating area, an infinity pool, and stunning ocean views, you will feel like you have properly arrived in paradise. All of this wonder and beauty will open you up up up, so you have lots of room to dream of possibilities.

WHAT WILL WE DO?

In our workshops we will be exploring themes such as gratitude, presence, longing and listening as over the week we reclaim our Holy Yes. Our schedule also includes time for journaling, sharing, daily movement practice, and lots of time for reflection or hanging out by the pool. We will spend one morning at the beach, followed by a barbecue lunch, and another morning playing in the jungle.

WHAT WILL WE EAT?

We’ll be eating all of our meals at the hotel together; indulging in fresh fruit, eggs, and Gallo Pinto (Costa Rican rice and beans) for breakfast. There will be meat, fish and vegetarian options for lunch and dinner. The hotel owner has his own permaculture farm where his team grow many of the fruits and vegetables and herbs used in the restaurant. In their own words, the hotel is ‘the first international gourmet cuisine 100% Gluten Free restaurant in Costa Rica.’

WHY COSTA RICA?

The motto for Costa Rica is Pura Vida. In English, this means ‘pure life’, and there isn’t a better way to describe this country! Even though Costa Rica only takes up 0.03% of the planet, it hosts more than 5% of the world’s biodiversity. It is impossible to come here and not see or eat something remarkable. It is the place that called Meghan in her own Holy Yes. We are so excited to share this beautiful country with you.

Did you know that there are 52 species of hummingbirds in Costa Rica?

IMG_3670

It is a place made for dreaming. It is a place that will stir your senses. It is a place full of magic and miracles.
