Day 27: In the Studio with Corey D’Augustine ~ How to Paint like Yayoi Kusama

In this wonderful In the Studio series from the Museum of Modern Art, Corey D’Augustine shows how to create paintings in the style of various masters. In this video, he demonstrates the techniques used by Yayoi Kusama to create her infinity net paintings. Corey’s deep knowledge in both art history and practice makes this series a brilliant learning experience on many levels.

UPDATE: The event has since passed. As of this writing, the best way to see any of the performances is to visit Global Citizen’s YouTube playlist.

You’ve probably heard about this by now but Lady Gaga has curated a massive event for all of us today. They have already raised money to help with the pandemic before the show even goes to air! One World: Together at Home will be streamed online starting at 2:00 pm EST plus shown on just about every network between 8:00 – 10:00 pm EST. Check your local listings or search for “How to Watch One World: Together at Home” to find your best access!

Day 25: Galen Hooks Presents Freestyle Roulette

Galen Hooks is a choreographer whose work I deeply admire. Not only has she created choreography videos that I watch again and again but in today’s inspiration she hosts an event called Freestyle Roulette in which dancers spin for a theme and a song and then improvise on the spot. The results are deeply individual and always fascinating. In this particular episode, be sure you watch the last one. It’s a beauty!

Day 24: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert – Raveena

“I just want to create this feeling of softness in the room, and community.”
Raveena

This morning my sisters and I were talking about what a comfort music is at this time. If you don’t know about NPR Music’s Tiny Desk concerts, welcome to a rabbit hole of beauty and joy. You can start with the soulful laidback jazzy tunes of Raveena.

What music are you enjoying right now?

Day 23: Morning Walk with Byron Katie

Depending on where you are, you may or may not be able to go out for a walk. In this video Byron Katie not only describes an approach to your walk, if you can take it, but also provides a visual walk for you to experience from wherever you are. I found it very calming to sit in my studio and go on this walk with her guidance and presence. I hope you will too.

4 Keys to Creative Living

On Tuesdays I invite you Behind the Scenes at my studio.

Today:  Sometimes we creatives need a bit of structure to guide our energy so today let me share one tip for dealing with productivity in the pandemic and four keys to creative living.

Mentioned in Today’s Episode:

Day 22: An Old French Tune Performed by Pomplamoose

From this first moment I saw this performance by Pomplamoose of Je Me Suis Fait Tout Petit, an old French tune by Georges Brassens, I fell in love not only with the song but also the infectious joy of the performers. Today I watch it with delight and remember how good it will be when people can get close to one another again!
