Nothing Says Love Like Cookies

Cookie Ingredients

It’s a very cold Valentine’s and Justin’s under the weather so I thought a wonderful way to spend the afternoon would be watching movies and enjoying cookies fresh out of the oven!

Cookie Cookery

I pulled out my old standby, Cookie Cookery by John J. Zenker & Hazel G. Zenker.

Hazel's Chocolate Chip Cookies

I have been making Hazel’s Chocolate Chip Cookies since I was 12 years old. They are still my absolute, very, very favourite and are so easy to make. I wish I could pour you a cup of coffee or make you a tea and share a plate of cookies for Valentine’s. I guess the next best thing is sharing the recipe.

Hazel’s Chocolate Chip Cookies

1/2 cup shortening or butter (I always use butter)
1/2 cup brown sugar
14 cup white sugar

Cream butter and both sugars until light.

1 egg
1 Tbsp water
1/2 tsp vanilla

Beat egg, add with water and vanilla to sugar mixture and blend.

1 1/4 all-purpose flour
1/8 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda

Sift together and combine with egg-sugar mixture.

1 6-oz package chocolate chips.

Add to flour mixture, adding love as you stir. (I added that part!)

Drop from teaspoon 2 inches apart on greased and lightly floured cookie pan. (I use a silpat)
Bake at 360 for 10-12 minutes (approximately.

Enjoy! A sweet little treat from me to you on Valentine’s Day!

Valentine's & Chocolate Chips

Gather Love

A simple and beautiful creative living journal practice to honour love on Valentine’s Day and every day.

“What a cool idea to get your love/gratitude feelings into a snapshot moment page. Then revisit it or create a new one periodically. They could accumulate and create a love/gratitude record of life!” Julie

stART: A Whirlwind of Giggles

Every couple of weeks I film stART: Creating as We Go with my two sisters, Suzie and Shannon. We share our creative projects, from challenges to celebrations, and support each other’s creative lives. We hope we’ll inspire you to get creating too!

On episode 43: We had quite an interesting time recording this episode! Although many tech woes countered our attempts, The Ridler Sisters prevailed! We even tried Google Hangouts for the first time – and may even do more in the future! We also had a lovely listener question from Dara – thanks Dara! As always, we share what we are up to creatively, with projects new and projects abandoned, viewpoints changed and staying on course. It’s a whirlwind of a show and we hope you enjoy it.

In this episode we mention:

Bad Coffee, A Year of Dreams & Your Impact

Every weekday morning I invite you Behind the Scenes at my studio.

Today: My mom didn’t hold back when she didn’t like the coffee, in part because she didn’t think her reaction had any impact – but I believe we all have impact – and recently some viewers have had an impact on me!

Writing, Dreamboards & Playing Guitar

Every weekday morning I invite you Behind the Scenes at my studio.

Today: A day of writing ahead, especially when it comes to sharing the magic of dreamboards. And then an evening of guitar – I’ve been practicing and working my way through discouragement.
